Jio will now compete with Meta's Reels in the 'Short-Video' segment, will launch 'Platform' app

Reliance-backed Jio Platforms has partnered with music and pop-culture magazine, Rolling Stone India, and advertising agency, Creativeland Asia, to launch the app. For this, facilities like “Book Now” button will also be provided on the creators profile, using which people and organizers will be able to connect with these creators and get their bookings for events etc. The objective of this short-video app-platform of Jio will be to create a comprehensive ecosystem of entertainers present in all parts of the country. And obviously then using it, the company can be seen working to explore the possibilities of monetization for itself and for the creators as well.

Creators related to all fields will be seen on this platform app, such as singer, actor, dancer, comedian, designer etc. We all are well aware of the fast growing popularity of the 'short-video' format in the present times. Yes! The big credit for this goes to TikTok, which made the short video trend so popular in the last 2-4 years that even the big social media companies could not stay away from it. And especially in India, many new startups including Meta and Google have left no stone unturned to take advantage of the opportunity created after the ban of TikTok, be it Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts or all indigenous apps like Josh. Of. From creators making short videos on these various platforms, to the number of viewers watching such videos – both in many countries like India, are growing steadily. And this is the reason why now it has become difficult for companies belonging to other sectors to escape its charm. Perhaps this is the reason why even the country's telecom giant Jio has now decided to step into the short-video segment. Meta's Instagram and Google's YouTube are going to get a new rival in India. This becomes more interesting because Jio has Meta as an investor. Interestingly, it has also come to the fore that the technology infrastructure support for this platform app will be provided by Jio Platforms Limited, which already supports Jio Media, Entertainment and Digital Apps.

The first 100 founding members (creators) of the app will be invited to join on an invite-only basis and will be provided with Golden Ticket verification on their profiles. After this, these creators will be motivated to add new members under the 'Referral Program'. There is also speculation that instead of the payment-algorithm used by Meta, Jio will allow creators on its app to grow organically based on their ranking and reputation. So far it has been revealed that Jio can launch its short-video app platform by January 2023.
