Startup Restaurant Chain The House of Makeba Crosses ₹125 Crore, Gears Up for National Expansion

Startup Restaurant Chain The House of Makeba Crosses ₹125 Crore, Gears Up for National Expansion

What started as a single rooftop restaurant on IIM Road in 2018 has grown into one of Gujarat’s most promising startup success stories in the F&B space. The House of Makeba, a bootstrapped startup vegetarian restaurant chain specializing in North Indian and Global Cuisines, has surpassed ₹125 crore in cumulative revenue and now sets its sights on expanding beyond state borders. In a scenario where people are exploring business concept sin modern taste, this startup aims to bring North Indian flavours and culture to every nook and corner of the country.

From ₹1.2 crore in FY 2018-19 to over ₹24 crore projected for FY 2024-25, the startup has scaled more than 20x in six years—all without raising a single rupee of external funding.
“Every outlet, every customer, every milestone has been organic—built through belief, discipline, and reinvestment. Our objective is to build quality alternative to legacy giants in the country. Keeping profitability in mind before every investment step.” said Ram SinghalCo-Founder, The House of Makeba. “We’re proud to be a startup that’s scaled sustainably in a fiercely competitive market, without chasing valuations.”

With seven thriving outlets across Gujarat—the brand has cultivated a loyal base of over 12 lakh diners, with nearly one in three being repeat customers. Its distinctive rooftop dining concept and regional-first approach have helped the brand stand out in a crowded vegetarian F&B space.

The company operates through a hybrid model—a mix of company-owned outlets in prime locations and strategically partnered franchises across cities like Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Anand. This lean yet scalable model is now being replicated as The House of Makeba prepares to enter five new states by 2026, targeting markets like Indore, Jaipur, Udaipur, Mumbai, and Pune.

To fuel this national rollout, the company plans to invest ₹45 crore by 2028, potentially scaling to ₹60 crore by 2030.

With 20 outlets projected by 2028 and 25 by 2030, The House of Makeba is emerging as a frontrunner in the vegetarian dining segment, offering a premium, homegrown alternative to legacy giants.
