Founder Story: Harsh Verma – Chasing
Stars with Skygaze India
Every story of creation begins with
a choice. For Harsh Verma, that choice came in 2023. On one side was the path
everyone advised him to take—a secure corporate job, steady income, a safe
future. On the other was a whisper, a dream to turn his lifelong fascination
with the night sky into something much bigger.
Harsh chose the dream.
Raised in a lower-middle-class family by a single mother, Harsh had always felt
the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. A stable career seemed like the
obvious choice, but the desire to build something of his own was stronger.
Space science had always been a passion—yet one he believed was out of reach,
an expensive indulgence meant only for a privileged few.
That belief changed the day he made
a bold decision. With no funding, but immense faith, he purchased a mid-range telescope on his credit card and set it up on
his rooftop. What began as a personal experiment quickly drew in neighbors,
friends, and relatives. Their eyes lit up with wonder as they gazed at Saturn’s
rings, the Moon’s craters, and distant stars. In their excitement, Harsh saw
more than just curiosity—he saw an opportunity to democratize the cosmos.
This was the birth of Skygaze India.
The beginning, however, was far from
glamorous. Skygaze launched with a simple service: mobile telescope observations. The first two months were filled
with silence. There were no bookings, no traction. The market for stargazing
simply did not exist. “We realized we couldn’t just sell a telescope
experience,” Harsh recalls. “We had to create awareness, inspire people, and
build a culture around stargazing in Delhi.”
And then, as if on cue, the universe
intervened. In February 2025, a rare planetary
parade captured public imagination. Seizing the moment, Skygaze India
organized observation events in Rohini. The response was
overwhelming—house-full audiences and premium clients requesting private home
observations. From that night onward, Delhi began to take notice.
The team quickly expanded its
offerings, setting up a permanent
observation site and hosting events through booking platforms. But
stargazing proved seasonal—after every wave of interest, silence followed. To
survive, Skygaze evolved. Harsh introduced astronomy
education programs for schools, corporate sessions, and training workshops,
taking stargazing beyond events and into structured learning.
Scaling, however, required resources
they didn’t have. Larger audiences and premium collaborations demanded
professional-grade telescopes—equipment far outside their budget. Once again,
Harsh found himself at a crossroads. With unshakable faith, he took a leap,
procuring high-powered telescopes
entirely on credit.
It was a turning point. With this
bold investment, Skygaze India began securing collaborations with schools, corporates, and national-level
events, becoming one of the few organizations in Delhi actively building a
culture of astronomy outreach.
“Ever since that leap of faith,” Harsh
says with a smile, “Ram Ji has blessed me with milestones that kept me going.”
From a single telescope on a rooftop
to a venture that organizes stargazing
events, school astronomy programs, and corporate experiences, Skygaze India
has grown into a name synonymous with accessible astronomy. What was once seen
as an exclusive hobby has become a shared community experience, inspiring
curiosity among children, families, and professionals alike.
Harsh’s message to aspiring dreamers
is simple yet powerful:
“If there’s one thing I’ve
learned, it’s that dreams don’t wait for perfect conditions—they demand the
courage to fight through uncertainty. Entrepreneurship is all about
experimenting and evolving; if one thing fails, rise and work on the next.”
